About Risk Collective
I am Sue Bartucca and I have been writing for and editing many different consumer and lifestyle magazines over the years and, I don’t know about you, but for a long time I have found women’s magazines a little disappointing and I have never really been inspired by other websites aimed at women either. I always felt there was something missing – but not any more!
The Risk Collective is a new site aimed at women between 35 and 65 who simply want more from their lives:
- Women who want to juggle family life and work
- Women who want to get away from it all and do something different
- Women who want to take the plunge and start their own business or change their career
- Women who want to solve their health problems to move on in their life
- Women who want to know what to expect from the menopause!
- Women who want to be inspired by others to do what they have always wanted to
- Women who want to take a risk and change their lives – in big or small ways
I am now officially middle aged (45, soon to be 46) and I find that the mags on sale in the high street fail to meet all my needs as they focus more on celebrity, fashion and beauty.
I am not saying there is anything wrong with fashion and beauty – it is a big part of all our lives and something we all enjoy – especially shopping (when it’s for ourselves and not for the house or the rest of the family!), and I love reading about the celebs and what they have been up to, but it’s not enough for me and for many women I know who are like me.
I want to talk to other women about their own experiences and to be inspired by them – to help me solve my own problems and give me the confidence to change my life and to have fun doing it.
Life‘s a journey and we need companions along the way to share our experiences – and to learn from each other.
I look forward to meeting you…

My path to becoming a journalist has been an unusual one, to say the least. In my time, I’ve worked as a police scene of crimes officer (long before the job got a glamorous makeover thanks to CSI Miami!) and a secondary school history teacher before finally taking the plunge to retrain as a journalist at the age of 32.
Since then I’ve not looked back. I love writing, in all of its forms. I worked as a staff reporter for four years on a magazine writing about crime and policing. But with the arrival of my third child, I opted to go freelance which is nerve-racking, but also exciting as you never know what’s around the corner.
I’ve been involved in a range of writing projects that I could never have comtemplated when I was working full-time. The most enjoyable was ghost writing the memoirs of a Battle of Britain pilot. I’m now working on another book about a local family.
As someone who believes that women possess vast, untapped reserves of talent in all spheres of life and that they just need a little encouragement to take that leap of faith into something new, I’m very excited about writing for Risk Collective.

At 23 and having worked as an au pair in France and a recruitment consultant, I’ve had a few career changes already. But I’ve always carried on writing whatever my job, whether it is freelancing for magazines or scriptwriting. I grew up in Suffolk and after spending my gap year living and working in Mexico and finishing my degree in creative writing at Leeds University, I moved to London to do a few work experience placements with Bella and The Guardian. I got into an internship specialising in well-being, health and fitness and food, for a website providing information on everything to do with the family. I was then offered a full-time job as an online journalist with them and enjoy freelancing for Risk Collective and others in my spare time.
