“Once you start reading this book you won’t be able to put it down” is the subtitle of The Sex Diaries by Bettina Arndt. I chuckled as I read this thinking that many books claim to be unputdownable, but few really match up to the hype.
However, once I started reading, I was indeed hooked – and found myself agreeing with and recognising many of the scenarios described in the book. It just goes to prove how different men and women really are and how their expectations of pleasurable sex can vary wildly. And long-term sex in a partnership or marriage is one of the most difficult aspects of a relationship and can lead to all sorts of misunderstandings which, unless dealth with promptly, can sour a marriage if one partner feels unfulfilled and unwanted.
“The number one sexual problem plaguing women is low libido,” says Bettina, a trained clinicla psychologist and sex therapist. She concludes that to enjoy sex, women should just get on with it… Controversial advice, perhaps?

The Sex Diaries by Bettina Arndt is published by Hamlyn and costs £9.99.
